What's With The Whole "Short Matches On TV Are Horrible" Idea?

Are Short Matches On TV A Bad Thing?

Recent UK Ratings

Impact from July 7
- drew 211,000 in the first airing of the show on July 12 (down -5,000/-2%)

Destination X - drew 180,000 airing on Wednesday night after the PPV (July 13). Compared to Slammiversary, that's up 23,000 viewers

Credit to PWInsider by way of Hyde Hill

Talon's Take
As Hyde Hill mentioned in one of his recent comments on this site, Destination X being up 23,000 viewers from Slammiversary should be indicative of how the show did in the United States. This of course would conflict with the recent Dave Meltzer report of TNA's buyrates.

Flashback Friday AMW vs Triple X Turning Point 2004

This weeks Flashback Friday i chose a match that maybe one of the greatest matches not in TNA history but Wrestling history with 2 great teams, Triple X vs AMW and i think it shows that a tag team wrestling match is capable of Main Eventing a PPV.

 Talon's Take
CM Punk was part of TNA years ago. At that time he was in the Gathering as one of Raven's minions. The Gathering also included Julio Dinero (from ECW) and Alexis Laree (better known as Mickie James). This ploy seems a bit desperate to me that TNA is capitalizing off of WWE's momentum but I guess its a smart business move.

Last Night...On IMPACT

IMPACT WRESTLING
JULY 28, 2011
ORLANDO, FLORIDA

Last week I was incredibly hard on the show for a variety of reasons. One suggestion I would make is to never watch a show you love in a horrible mood, which I did last week. With that said, I did go back and watch last week's episode of IMPACT and my opinion of the show didn't change. There was no real flair last week and I just wasn't entertained. I was so uninterested last week that my interest in the IMPACT Wrestling product actually waned and killed all of my motivation to watch the show. I went into this week expecting the same but was given something completely different.

For the past few weeks I have shown my thoughts on the Sting Joker character. I felt that he has been a bit over-the-top with the character and because of his exact references to the Dark Knight movie, I felt the character felt very cheap and second rate. This was was completely different as I thought Sting nailed the character. He toned down the voices and actually brought some nice comedy to the show. I loved his remarks and loved it when he hugged Karen Jarrett with Immortal standing around him.

TNA Signs Reality TV Star

Former 'Big Brother' star Jessie Godderz a.k.a Mr. Pec-Tacular just signed a deal with TNA Wrestling -- and TMZ has learned the company is hopeful he'll debut on TV by the end of the year.

For those unfamiliar, Godderz was the professional body builder on "Big Brother" Seasons 10 and 11... and has been training to become a professional wrestler ever since leaving the house.

According to multiple sources, Jesse has signed a developmental contract with TNA Impact Wrestling that runs through the rest of 2011 -- and the company hopes to get him on TV in the next few months.

TMZ spoke to Jesse who told them he's been "training with TNA wrestler Bully Ray at his facility in Florida" ever since signing the deal ... and is hopeful he'll get an opportunity to mix it up in the ring with Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle in the near future.

Rumor on Early Destination X Buyrates

According to Wrestling Observer, a rough estimate on pay-per-view buys for TNA's Destination X last month would be between 8,000 and 8,500, which is a slight decrease from the prior month's Slammiversary pay-per-view.

Talon's Take
Take all PPV Buyrate estimates with a grain of salt. With that said, if this number is anywhere near accurate, one has to consider it a disappointment. The rumor heading into Destination X was that if this PPV drew well, then there would be alot more focus on the X Division in the future and it would pave the way for more X Division themed shows in the future.

Spike Going In a New Direction?

At the PROMAX/BDA annual conference of marketing executives two weeks ago, Spike TV made it clear they intend on rebranding and trying to change its image from a station mainly targeting males 18-34 to both males and females 18-49.

The network is expecting to lose UFC programming and what this new direction change means for TNA and the weekly Impact Wrestling show is unknown. The show continues to draw well demographic wise and averages anywhere from 1.6-1.8 million viewers per week.

Update on a Story From Monday

On Monday, I posted a rumor that Zema Ion was in Orlando for the IMPACT Tapings. In an attempt to update you as quickly as possible (the story was posted at the time of the tapings), I ended up posting the story without cross checking the accuracy of it.  As many of our readers pointed out, Zema Ion was scheduled to wrestle for EVOLVE (not Dragon Gate) last night but due to flight problems, was stuck in Mexico. The original story was pulled and we would like to apologize for the error.

New Beer Money Shirt At ShopTNA

Talon's Thoughts:
This company has a major thing with affliction shirts and skulls, huh? The shirt is actually pretty cool looking but I find it frustrating that they continue to use the TNA logo when I feel the IMPACT Wrestling brand is what they were marketing and probably should be referred to at this point. While I do like this shirt, I wish this company released the "Beer Hunter" shirt from this past week's IMPACT as I thought that was unique and purchase-worthy.

Monday Night Taping Results

Some Spoilers For Tonight's Taping Involving X Division

BFG Series Wrestler Out for 6 weeks?

Poll Results: How Would You Rate Destination X?

Talon's Thoughts: (UPDATED)
Destination X happened over two weeks ago and was easily considered by most IMPACT Wrestling fans to be the PPV of the year for the company. Being PPV of the year racked up more than 2/3rds of the vote while the second place option was "worth the money spent." I feel the show focused less on crap that critics constantly use against TNA and was more focused and straight forward. Here's hoping that the PPV gets higher buys as I think it would prove a solid point about what fans want.

One thing I constantly heard before the PPV was that the success of the show would really determine the future of the X Division and potential X Division themed shows. From all accounts, the show was a massive success.
